However, with regular efforts like as adjusting your bedtime and establishing a new sleep regimen, you may gradually become an early riser, allowing you more time in the day.

The Marshmallow Experiment, conducted by Stanford University psychologist Walter Mischel, highlighted the power of self-control and delayed gratification in children. A child was placed in a room with a single marshmallow on a table for this study. They could eat it right away, but if they waited until the researcher returned after 10-15 minutes, they would receive one extra marshmallow as a treat. After that, the researcher exited the room, leaving the toddler alone with the marshmallow.

The findings provided important insights into children’s ability to postpone gratification. Some kids couldn’t help themselves and ate the marshmallow right away. Others exhibited restraint while waiting for the promised second marshmallow. The researchers followed up with the participants until they reached maturity. This experiment demonstrated the effectiveness of practicing self-control and delayed gratification. Children who practiced delayed gratification hoped for a higher reward by resisting the desire to consume the marshmallow in the expectation of getting another marshmallow. And these children fared better in life. It suggests that having a self-control mindset and resisting temptation can lead to greater achievement.
